Book Review: The Simple Truth
The Simple Truth
Reviewed in Gospel Advocate, April 2007
A genuine nugget of knowledge has been prepared by Aaron Erhardt that will be an asset to any Bible student's library. The Simple Truth is a
concise 109-page treasure chest of information that adequately presents various Christian principles and church-related topics in a conservative
manner. Such topics as the plan of salvation, the Holy Spirit, instrumental music, the Lord's Supper, grace and denominationalism are
presented.
Additionally, The Simple Truth introduces thoughts regarding not so openly discussed issues such as when a person should be baptized, social
gospel vs. saving gospel, religious titles, solos and choirs, women preachers, and thoughts regarding aids (overhead projectors/PowerPoint) vs.
additions (gymnasiums) to the church. The book is composed of nine easy-to-read chapters that are structured with clear examples, charts and
sound doctrinal references from men in the brotherhood such as David Lipscomb, J.W. McGarvey and B.C. Goodpasture.
Erhardt writes each lesson in a "shotgun" approach, which may be an unusual style to some readers. However, this particular format allows the
reader to move effortlessly from topic to topic in a timely manner and not become weighed down with lengthy and unnecessary verbiage. Erhardt
addresses each point using his own examples. He also complements most of the positions with the Bible's book, chapter and verse so that the
reader may cross-reference and verify what the Bible teaches on that particular subject matter.
The Simple Truth is a must read for new converts and an excellent read for all Christians wanting to remain sharp on the basic biblical principles.
